ILR for Baby born in UK

Dear friends

Can you please clarify based on your experience I have to apply ILR for my toddler who is 18 months who was born in the UK? I am hoping to apply for ILR for myself and my wife and then just directly apply for a citizenship for my toddler? Please correct me if I am wrong.
