I was wondering if someone could help me please.

My husband did his PET English test on 6th December and we have just checked the website where you can get the results quicker and it says that he has passed. He got 77/100. Reading, Writing and Speaking was all over borderline by a mile, however his listening was just below borderline. I looked on the UKBA website and all 4 should be borderline. I called them to ask them about it but was very unhelpful and said I should contact the college where he took the test to find out what the pass mark was.

The college asked me what result he got and said that was a very high pass. They also said that it shouldn't matter that his listening was just under borderline as you only need to submit the certificate.

Do you think we could still apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain or not?

For ILR, you only need Speaking and Listening scores. The reading and writing scores are irrelevant and not required.

Therefore, in order to qualify, you must meet the require scores in both Speaking and Listening. You can fail the reading and writing tests as these are not required for the ILR application.

Since its the Listening score you fall short off, i'm afraid you would need to retake the test again.

The college is incorrect is stating that listening doesn't matter as both Speaking and Listening are critical requirements for ILR.

the online result is different from the result you will get as certificate .i did my pet test in June online result is all above borderline 83/100 but the certificate I got in mail just says pet test pass that's it no marking in separate qualifications so what I thought is its says on HO site that pass or pass with disti..., I think they will accept that certificate .my peo appointment is on 3 February so I will update .

You have met the requirements for Speaking and Listening, therefore, in your case, it shouldn't be a problem. However, the OP state they fell short of the Listening aspect, which is one of the requirements for ILR, so the husband will need to retake the test again.

Just to add, you need to achieve a score of Level B1 of the CEFR for all tests (ESOL, PET, KET, IELTS etc...)

In the PET case, you need:

Speaking - Borderline (Pass or Pass with Merit)
Listening - Borderline (Pass or Pass with Merit)

as this meets Level B1 of CEFR.

Reading and writing scores are not required. Anything below the above scores, you will need to retake the test.

my friend take exams for only speaking and listening its grade 5 equals b1 from trinity college and got the result same day .only 10 mint exam try that one .

London is too far from where we live.

We have decided to apply for extension and we have booked to do another PET english test now but thank u for letting know about trinity college in london

You don't have to do a PET test. You can easily do one of the other tests. Why not try ESOL Skills for Life Entry 3.

With this test, you don't even need to wait for the actual certificate to arrive to submit with your ILR as the guidance of the UKBA website states:

For tests taken on or after 6 April 2013: no documents required
(Scores must be verified using the Cambridge English online system using name, date of birth and passport number)

Applying for an extension will be a very costly approach as you would need to fork out several hundreds of pounds on fees, submit all documents as required etc... and then apply for ILR at a later date costing over a £1000 again.

You have until end of April for the visa to expire, that's over 3 months and is plenty of time to do another English test.

I would advise for another attempt at the English test and at the same time prepare for applying for a visa extension (FLR) to be used as a last resort . If your spouse passes the test, you could well away applying for ILR in time.

Is that mean that i can apply the irl without providin the certificate of the exam ?

Yes you can.

No need to produce certificate as this is now checked online.

However make sure you do the test for which they will accept online verification such as ESOL. PET should also be ok.

But there are still some tests in which you still need a certificate.

I don't think you need test result certificate. Home office will be able to see results online with the picture taken on exam day. I have my wife passed her PET exam but we are applying at PEO without certificate.

My wife has to apply for ILR, it expires on the 31 May.

She passed the PET, 80/100, but I have just seen she has not got borderline on the listening.

Will this affect the ILR application?

Please advise if you can do.
