Changing to ILR from Spouse Visa

I just applied for my second renewal of spouse visa (a few days ago), before my current visa expired, I have now more than 5 years living in the UK. Now I have passed the life in the UK, so I can apply for ILR, Do I need to wait to receive the decision regarding my current spouse visa extension? or can I apply immediatley? what Should I do? I have read in "Variation applications during section 3C leave" that I can apply for a variation of the same visa, but if changing the type of visa, I am not sure. Thanks

Yes, I have live here 5 yeras with spouse visa and previously other visas. I applied for extension because my visa expired.
