Hi Everyone,

Please help me if you been in this situation.

we got indef. leave to remain last year in june and can apply for naturalistion this june. I am expecting a baby this may and my wife wish to travel to india for 2 months and if i apply for British passport for my new born that it will take 3-6 months . My questions are:

Q1. If i apply an Indian Passport for my new born can he/she travel and get the visa from india or do i need to apply from here ( dependant and it costs £600 ).

Q2. I am planning to go through coucil passport service ( will they keep the passports or they will check and give that back )

In the absence of a British passport, a British child may apply for a Certificate of Entitlement to the Right of Abode.
Applying through the Nationality Checking Service (NCS) wrote:They will ensure that your form is correctly completed, and they will copy your documents and return them to you

I am not sure that the Indian consulate would be willing to issue a passport without confirmation that the child is not British which you can't produce as the child will be British from Birth. I suggest you ask this question in the "other countries" section of the forum.
