ILR Supporting Evidence for Freelance Contractor

Dear All,

I am applying for ILR as a Tier 1-General in August 2012. I work as a contractor in my personal capacity and do not operate under a company structure. I do not get P60 and do not have an accountant filing my returns. I entered the UK in Nov 2007- less that 3 months from date of visa stamp.

I have the following questions and hope someone can guide me and give me some hope!

1. What documents shoud I present or request from HMRC to prove that I have been a tax payer for nearly 5 years? The FAQ mentions tax history- is there a specific name for the form such as SA302 or SA300?

2. The Immigration Directives Chapter 6A mentions that as a contractor I need to provide evidence of being Self Employed for the earnings period I will be claiming (12 months - July 2011-June 2012). Can I submit the Class 2 NIC bills for that period or is there another letter that I should request from HMRC

3. I have kept of a log of all my entries and exits from the UK and I will provide copies of my passport (together with original). Is that sufficient as evidence of continuous stay? I do have business trips with days exceeding 180 (196 to day) but I have letters from the agencies I worked through to state that my role included travels to Europe.

4. The Directives say I must provide at least 2 sources of corroborating evidence to prove Earnings. I do not get a salary slip but my bank statements show the monies paid by from the agencies. Can I ask them for a letter confirming the payments as well or would that be seen the same source? Otherwise I would have to get a registered accountant to confirm.

I am very grateful for any guidance you can provide!

Many thanks

Dear Moderators,

I have received no reply on my post and I wonder if what I wrote was not clear. I am hoping that there are other self-employed contractors working without a ltd company.

Any guidance will be very much appreciated, even if it is to say that my post is not clear enough.

Much appreciated,

IslandILR

Have you been submitting annual Self Assessment tax returns to HMRC?

Dear Casa,

Yes I have been submitting my Self Assessment tax returns since 2008.
And I have already submitted my return for FY2011/12 (not paid up) in the hope that I can ask for a statement of Liabilities to show that I have paid taxes all along.
