Length of residence required for ILR for PBS dependents

My wife and kid entered and stayed with me in UK as Tier-1(General) dependents since 2011.
For getting ILR to my wife and kid, are they required to stay with me
continuously for 2 years in UK or overall period of 2 yrs(with a break in between) in UK, as PBS dependents
Is the 2 years stay need to be in precedence to the ILR application date or
it can be anytime during my Tier-1 status.
