I have a question about the requirements for visas for young children.
I am currently on Tier 1 General and will be applying for ILR in November. My daughter (3), born in the UK, is currently a dependent on my Tier 1.
After I apply for settlement, I intend to register her for British citizenship (& then a passport). I would like to confirm what her status will be in the period between when I apply for settlement and when she obtains citizenship - she will in effect be "visa-less" for a few months.
Is this OK as long as as we do not travel outside the UK, or do I need to add her as a dependent to my settlement application first (and then apply for citizenship, etc).

I don’t have the answer to your question but I am in the same dilemma these days and can’t decide what to do. On one hand I would like to save £700 but I don’t want any problems. Also I was worried if we need to leave the country due to some urgent travel need then how would things work but I didn’t get a response. I hope somebody will address your questions.

1. Children born in the UK are not required to have a valid leave to remain.
2. If someone is not required to have a vaild leave to remain, then if they have it, and it lapses, the lapse cannot be held against them. This is my opinion only. You may want to seek expert clarificaition.

As long as you do not have any immediate (5 months approx), then get your ILR, and immediately proceed with the registration for your daughter.

Thanks for your response to my question. Sorry I don’t want to hijack this post but I assume that probably question of the OP has been answered. What I want to establish is whether there are any other scenarios other than the urgent travel need where having an ILR for the child is required. Have you read any stories on the forum where someone ran to problems due to not having ILR for the child?
