Working while application in HO for ILR FLR(O)

Do I have to work for the same sponsor (tier 2) while my application for ilr (10years long residence) is being processed. Can I switch sponsor and/or work in a job outside my tier 2 sponsorship while my passport is with ho?

No. You are Tier 2 migrant until your ILR is approved and have to abide by the conditions of your current leave. You have always had the right to take a second job without informing the UKBA if it's in the same category as your existing work and is no more than 20 hours.

On a different note, can a tier 2 visa be extended for less than 6 months say for an3 month period? Is there a limit on the minimum time.
