10 years residency question

Hi, can anyone help me with my case?

I have stayed here as a student since 2003 for 4 years, and then I have stayed here for another 5 years as a work permit holder, and now I just got a visa as " parent of british citizen" which gives me 30months leave to remain. I understand that I could apply settlement after 5 years under this leave, but what I am thinking is I have been staying here lawfully for the last 9 years, could I apply indefinite leave to remain on the ground of "10 years long residency" after one more year? Or I have to start all over again because this "parent of british citizen" visa does not qualified to 10 years rules?

Please help!!! thank you very much!!!

1. Any 'legal' stay counts for 10 yrs.

2. Why did you not apply under 5 yr work permit?

Well very complicated but basically I applied ILR and UKBA refused saying my salary was too low, so I appealed on the ground of article 8 and they now granted me a leave. The strange thing is I have to report to oversea office which I have never done it before. I worry that's different kind of leave that does not count for 10 years.
