Hi
I am working with Imperial college as RA on Work Permit

Facts :
WP valid from 3 April 2008 – 3 April 2013
First Entry in UK : 17 April 2008

Query :
1. What’s the latest date I can apply for ILR. 19th April or 5th April 2013?
I believe its 20th March 2013
2. My employment with Imperial college would finish on 3rd April. However I have an offer letter from Cambridge university, which is willing to give me a CoS for teir 2 visa. Can I apply for ILR on the basis of this offer letter to comply the condition 134 (iii) stating that “ he is still required for the employment in question, as certified by his employer”.
3. If I can’t apply for ILR – Can I apply for Teir 2 visa on the basis of CoS from within the UK ?

Thanks
:)

1. The latest you can apply (without creating further complication) is 3/4/13 last date of your current visa. However you qualify to apply from 28 days before your 5 year completion period.

2. You apply for ILR on your current sponsor basis, which is imperial college until 3/4/13 ( when it ends). You could not apply as CU as your sponsor without actually getting a T2general visa as CW as your sponsor.

3. Yes

Bonus : you could potentially apply for ILR the very next day you get your CW sponsored T2g visa.

Thanks wpilr

Since Imperial wont be offering me job any longer- I think my case for ILR is finished. you did confirmed that.

However for switching to Tier 2 from WP - The guidlines for "Can you switch to Tier 2 (General)" does not enlists work Permit immigration category
see link
http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/visas ... /applying/

Also- a piece of advice : Do you think its worth to apply for ILR after getting Cambridge university sponsered Tier 2 visa? whats the advantage - as I see it as a loss of visa fee when I already have permission to work in UK for 2 more years already :)

Are you " Business and Commercial work permits (except multiple entry work permits)"? Then yes to your eligibility to switch incountry

Hi -
yes thats the point. How do I determine if my WP is business and commercial and not mutliple entry. I think it should be multiple entry as I have been in and out of country several times.

Also - do you think its worthwhile changing to ILR after getting Tier 2 ?

and - If I would have to leave country to apply for Tier 2 with Cambridge University - would that not be counted as break in 'continuous period'

Thanks

Hi,
Would someone please answer my queries - as I'd have to start taking steps accordingly.

1) Do I need to go back to India to apply for CU sponsered Tier 2 or is it possible from here? (Though I think I'd be required to go back from what I read on the link stated by me above - BUT I AM NOT SURE ABOUT DIFFERENT KINDS OF WORK PERMITS AND HOW TO DETERMINE WHICH WP I HAVE)

2) If I need to go back to India before applying for Tier 2 - then Would I be elligible for ILR after getting this visa ?

I got the link about Adv and Disadv of ILR in a different post so that should take care of it there....

Thanks
