urgent help needed!-kid outside the uk after ILR

alright. not THAT urgent...but any help would be appreciated nevertheless 
my husband and i got our ILR last year. i came back to my home country and gave birth to my daughter. i've been travelling to and from the uk (a part of my work too) but my daughter is still not in the records in the UK!!
what do i do? i thought it'll be a simple process of writing to them and getting her visa but she's almost 1 now and i havent applied as have been told it won't work! should i contact a lawyer? or write directly to the home office to ask? any idea how i can get my baby her visa?
