When can i apply for 10 Year ILR

Dear fellows i am sure some body will help me out here.
My visa expires 2 months before the completion of my 10 yeras long residence. As my documents will b with home office for current visa extension am i eligible to vary my application 28 days before the completion of long residency or only eligilbe to vary my application after completion of long residency.
