Hi,
I will be applying ILR in July. I had given Life in UK test in Jan 2013 and passed. But in March a new test has been introduced based on new book. Do I need to take this new exam as well ?

Your certificate is valid for life .You don't need to sit for another exam.

Once you do it, it's valid forever and you can use the same results for your citizenship application as well.

The life in the uk test is valid indefinitely. However, from October 2013 there will be an additional test for citizenship.

You will need to pass the Life in the UK test and a B1 level English speaking and listening qualification to qualify for settlement, subject to any exemptions which apply from October 2013 - http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitec ... family-mig

This was also supposed to extended to citizenship but as you'd need settlement to get citizenship they are now leaving it at just settlement. Those who have settlement before October 2013 should be protected unless Ms May decides to change her mind.
