My wife is from the USA and I am a UK citizen. We are applying for the ILR in order that she and our daughter can remain in the UK. My question is because I have accepted a new job will this be an obstacle in the application as it carries a 6 month probationary period? Last year I bought a flat and would not have been granted a mortgage with a new job. Is this the same with visas?

For set(m) I'm assuming that's what you'll be applying for, under the old rules, which again I assume you are under (application for leave to remain as spouse before July 2012). Therefore, you have to be able to adequately maintain yourselves without recourse to public funds. The HO like to see the last 3 months wage slips and corresponding bank statements. I'm sure you're or will be earning more than the income support amount once your housing costs (mortgage) has been deducted from your salary. In such case, you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

That's correct, it's a settlement visa. My wife recieved her spousal visa in April 2011 and I have been in continuous employment for several years. Thanks for the reassurance.
