Tier 2 ICT(before APR 2010) short of 1 year to apply for ILR

Hi

My intention is to apply for ILR.
Below are the dates of the Tier 2 ICT visa issued:
1)18th Feb 2010 to 14th March 2012
2)(extension) 15th March 2012 to 15th March 2014-Tier 2 ICT Long term

This makes me short of one year to apply for ILR.

There is low visibility for the next extension under ICT from the current employer.

Questions:
1)Can i switch from ICT to general (if i change my employer)?
2) will this switch reset my 5 year ILR clock?
3)will the cooling off period be applicable to me when i switch the category?
4)Is further extension in Tier 2 ICT for another year the only way to make me eligible to apply for ILR?

3)will the cooling off period be applicable to me when i switch the category?--What is cooling off period ?
4)Is further extension in Tier 2 ICT for another year the only way to make me eligible to apply for ILR?[/quote]--No
