ILR for old work permit holder

Hi,
I am on old work permit(before the point base system started) as Quality Statistical Analyst. I am going to complete 5 years in FEB 2014. I have following queries for ILR.
1) Do I need to give/pass english language test?, or I am exempted from it being the work permit holder and if yes, then can you please point me out where this is clearly mentioned on any government site. Pl. note that I am a diploma engineer from India, and worked in India for 14 years.
2) Do the code of practice applicable to me? As when the work permit is given or issued, there was no such thing in place.
3) About absent days --- I have not been out of this country for more than 180 days for personal purpose. In total I was out of country for 210 days but out of that 120 days were for official work. So do I need to get the letter from my employer for absent days? And if yes, then does the letter should include only official days in it or it should include my personal holidays as well?

I will appreciate your guidance on this.

Thanks
Vir

Sorry, I have read the FAQ already and then posted my query.
As the information in the category of ILR for closed categories is not clear, I had asked those questions.
So will appreciate if one can reply to my points.

Thanks
