Returning to the UK-Indefinite Leave To Remain potential pro

Hi,
I wonder if anyone can help me with the following:
I have indefinite leave to remain in the United Kingdom, which I obtained about 11 years ago. For the last 2 years and 11 months I have been living outside the United Kingdom with my husband and 2 children (who are all British citizens). This was because my husband accepted a job abroad on a 3 year contract. During these 2 years and 11 months we have been away, we returned to the United Kingdom once for 1 month in June 2012. We plan to return to the United Kingdom in December this year.
I am aware that I am within the 2 year rule as we visited the United Kingdom in June 2012. However, there are 2 things that concern me. Firstly, by the time we return we will have technically be living outside the United Kingdom for 3 years and the UKBA website is vague on this. Secondly, we change planes in Dubai and the Stupid there make checks on the status of passengers going to the UK during this change over period as they get fined if they allow people through who do not have the correct documentation. We have heard of 1 case where a person who had an indefinite leave to remain visa was sent back from Dubai and not allowed to continue their journey.
Can anyone help with information on this matter?
Thanks
