ilr tier 1 general

Dear fellows
i am about to apply for ilr on tire 1 general bases in jan 2015. i ll achieve 10 year residency in feb 2016. i am wondering if say the ho refuses my ilr in january 2015 is there any way i could drag my legal stay to one more year up to feb 2016 to apply for ilr on 10 year legal residency.
my wife will also apply who is here in uk for 5 months, and 2 months old baby born in uk.
i would appreciate if some one advise me what is my best bet.
