ILR (Long Residence) no original previous passports

Dear all,
thank you in advance for reading my question.
Having read many useful topics regarding similar applications to mine, I would like to know whether the HO would accept certified copy (by notary public) of my previous passport as a proof of having been in the country for 10 years?
My country's embassy had to retain my expired passport in order to issue me with a new one (silly rule).
The notary public signed, stamped and dated each page of the passport (including the covers) which cost me a handful back then.
I will be applying in person by mid-August 2016.
Cheers!
