NTL BRP (Biometric Residence Permit)

I applied for a new job for which I was made an offer for in early September. I have had ILR since 2008 and was surprised to find out that despite being able to leave/enter the country on separate passports (one current passport, one with the ILR) like I have always done, I needed a BRP to prove my eligibility to work in the UK. I was not told this until providing my documents for a DBS check more than a month later. I sent my application as soon as I was made aware. Above is the current timeline for my BRP application. I am finding the whole process slightly bizarre because I am assuming my case to be fairly straightforward but with no confirmations or updates being given during such a large time scale, it's very frustrating. I can't even ask for my passports back in order to travel as the application will be withdrawn. Is anyone else in a similar position or can shed any light on the situation?
