ILR absences calculations

Hi all,

I am currently on track to submit an application for my ILR under long residence (Tier 4 student for 10 years). I've calculated my absences and I am only 4 days under the limit.

I wondered if there are any permitted leave that don't count as absences from the UK? I ask because I am currently a PhD student, and later on this year I am expected to attend a 5 day conference in Sweden. Would this put me over my permitted absences or are work-related trips discounted from the calculations?

Many thanks in advance.

The day of departure and day of the arrival in the UK aren't counted. Does this help?

For long residence applications, ALL absences are counted, there are no 'special absences' and you are expected to be within the limit with no single absence being longer than 180 days.

Some members have been refused for being over the limit for even compassionate (death in family) absence.
