My current Tier 2 visa has an expiry date of 30-08-2017
My very first visa has a start date of 20-07-2007
My very first trip to the UK using the above visa was 08-08-2017

What is the qualifying period in this case or when is the earliest date can ILR application be submitted ?

Thank you

Did you mean 08-08-2007?

Assuming you meet all other (especially absence and continuity of residence) requirements of ILR(LR), the earliest would be 28 days before 08-08-2017.

Sorry I meant 08-08-2007!

Referring to this link to https://www.gov.uk/long-residence/eligibility
Please look at 2. Eligibility

It says:

Your 10-year qualifying period starts from either:

1. when you arrived in the UK with a visa
2. when you were given permission to stay in the UK

Looking at (2. when you were given permission to stay in the UK), shouldn't this be 20-07-2007 i.e. the very first visa i.e. the day I was given permission to stay in the UK which also means:

the earliest would be 28 days before 20-07-2017

Thank you ever so much

Option 2 is for people who made an application WITHIN the UK to regulise their stay, eg. Discretionary leave to remain as an example.

For you, it is the date of ENTRY that starts the 10 years residence.
