ILR and separation from spouse of 16yrs

I've kinda read through some posts but I'm still a bit lost as wife says something different.

I am an American citizen, met my British wife in 2000, we married in 2001 and in 2003 I got ILR for an indefinite period. My wife now wants to separate and she said she's phoned the home office and that I now need to apply for a parent visa? I've read on here that once you have ILR it's there for good unless it was a sham which it wasn't as we were married for 16yrs.

Any advice on the situation is much appreciated

She is talking nonsense. If you have Indefinite leave to remain (settlement), then you have no need to apply for any other visa, provided you have not been absent from the UK for more than 2 years.

Why not apply for citizenship??

As an American you can have dual nationalities. Why not get British Citizenship as well?

The UK and the US both allow dual citizenship as far as I am aware.
