Hi All,

I am a British citizen and I got my British citizenship by naturalisation. My wife has an Indian passport and she is holding ILR (Indefinite Leave to Remain).

We are planning to apply for our daughter's Indian passport in India. She was born last month in India and my wife is in India currently. For our daughter's Indian passport application, my wife has been asked to endorse my name in her passport. If she gets this done, she will be re-issued a new Indian passport. What impact does this have on her ILR? Will she have any issues entering back into UK?

Do we have to inform British embassy in India/UK about her new passport?

We want to avoid any issues at immigration here in UK when she returns back to UK with her new Indian passport.

Please understand that ILR is not linked to a passport. You do not need to do anything

I believe we have to report a change of circumstances if you have a visa or BRP as mentioned in the below link:

The reason I want to confirm is because addition of spouse name on passport is not covered in the above guidelines.

Adding your name to your wife's passport has nothing to do with UK immigration and does not have to be reported to HO.

If you were already married when she got ILR then there is nothing to do.

It is an Indian passport authority requirement to add your name, one of a small number of countries that have this spouse name requirement.

Adding my name in her passport means she will be issued a new Indian passport.

And I came across the below 'change of circumstances' form (below link) wherein on page 8 it mentions - 'If a new passport has been issued, provide the passport number, place of issue, date of issue and the date of expiry of the new passport.'

That is for a Points Based visa holders (Tier 1, Tier 2, etc) as the form clearly states.
