BRP Renewal ILR

Hi,
My son's BRP is due to expire in November and got few question which I want to bring across the forum for some input.
a) How many days/month before the expiry could we apply for BRP renewal using BRP(RC)
b) In terms of documents for identify proof I am planning to get a letter from the GP confirming registration at the surgery and in terms of documents for continuous residency I am planning to get a letter from GP & School confirming attendance for the last 5 years. That is basically what I am planning to submit along with my son's passport/BRP/photographs. Is this sufficient or do we have to provide anything from the parents side as to utility bills and so on..?
