Out of time ancestry visa

Hello,
I'm posting for a friend who was granted a 5 year ancetry visa which expired April 2017. Unfortunately she applied for citizenship without ILR, that was rejected and she was advised by the HO to apply for discretionary leave which she submitted in August 2017. Was this the correct advice? Could she not just apply for ILR or vary the discretionary leave application to ILR?

No. She requires valid leave to apply for ILR.

Ok, so should she return home and re-apply for another 5 year ancestry visa rather than wait the outcome of the DLR application?

Her choice if she wishes to do that.

She would just like to know if its possible to apply again or if theres any restriction on the number of times that you can apply?

Morning Char, sorry, I just wondered if you could confirm if there was any limit to the numbers of times you can apply for the ancestry visa.
