I submitted an application for settlement (ILR) on the 21/02/18 after 2 x 3 years of discretionary leave to remain and have not received a decision as of yet.
does anyone know how long it is currently taking to make a decision?
I am out of work and going back to university in a few weeks and current in a situation where I need to find a job asap

No one can tell you how long it will take other than UKVI themselves. Based on your application date (21 Feb 2018), I'd say contact them after 21 Aug as it will have been 6 months. You can check other posts including mine to see timelines, what I did etc Mine was also 2x 3 year DLR.

if you call them after the 6 months, do they give you an update?

I called them after the 6 months of my application and they refused to give any update.
They said that with FLR (DL) ILR application there is no set time frame and there is no way to get any update.
Please advice me also if you find out any way to get the update
