I landed in the UK on the 8th of July 2013 on a tier 2 general visa. That makes me eligible to apply for ILR 28 days before the 5 year qualifying period is over - say 10th of June 2018.

My question is, is it a problem if I apply for ILR in September 2018 instead of June? Are there any risks of delaying the application by 2 to 3 months? I need to travel and would like to complete a trip before surrendering my passport for 5 to 6 months.

Can I apply at 5 years and 2 months? Tier 2 general visa valid till the next 3 years.

You are allowed to apply any time before your visa expires.

After your 5th year (and -28 days if needed) you can apply for ILR as soon as later you want (provided its before 6 years/visa expiry)
