Submit Online Application from outside UK?

Hi, I am to apply for ILR set O (Ancestry) after Dec 4th as that is 28 days before my visa expires on Dec 31st. I am currently in Canada until Dec 28th, and planning to send the application online about a week before I arrive back in the UK in hopes that I can book a suitable appointment in the brief time before the dreaded expiry date. Does anyone know for sure if filing the online application outside of the UK is an issue? I booked my flight long before the changes were made to make all applications online and requiring an additional appointment. The original plan was to send my complete application via post when I returned, but clearly things have changed.
Additionally, has anyone that has submitted their documents at the appointment been asked for their ancestry-related documents (birth/marriage certificates)? I ask because it does not ask for the documents relating to ancestry on the application. One would think that ancestry has already been adequately proven given that I already have an ancestry visa.
Thanks to the senior members of the forums for their continued advice and support. I think you've all saved many of us countless legal fees!
