Visa expiring - can I stay here while I wait for decision?

I'm going in panicked circles. I need to know if I need to pay for the expedited service. We are ready to submit the online visa and pay but I can't find any information about what to do if we don't hear back before my visa expires. I really don't want to have to pay the extra £610 if I don't have to.

Visa expires: 7 Feb 2019

Does anyone know if I will be allowed to continue living/working here while I wait for the decision on my ILR(Set M)?

If so, does anyone know where I can find information for my employer proving this?

Thanks for any help you can offer!

Your previous visa status continues while your new application is pending and until a decision is made.

It is a huge relief to hear you say this! :D

We can't find anything official on the gov.uk website that shows this for my employer. And ideas about where to find this?
