ILR Qualifying Period - Visa Issue Date vs Visa Commencement Date

Hi Everyone,
I'm currently on a Tier-2 (General) visa. I'm hopefully coming up to my ILR application timeline and am having some confusion with my ILR Qualifying period. Was hoping for some some help.
Key Dates
Visa Approval Date (from UKBA) : 14/5/2014
Visa 'Valid From' date on visa: 18/07/2014
Date started work: 8/9/2014
-I was already in the UK when I made my application for the Tier 2 visa as I was under a Tier 2 (ICT) visa.
-According to the policy guidance 'your qualifying period can include time from the date your initial application (for entry clearance or leave to remain) was approved.'
Question:
Does my 5 year qualifying period start from the Visa Approval Date (14/5/2014) or the Visa Valid From Date (18/07/2014)? I'm not quite sure what they mean by the date the application was approved?
Apologies if this question has been asked before but I couldn't find the exact answer to this question. Thanks in advance for any help provided.
Cheers,
John
