Officer has taken my ILR card when arrived on "Returning resident visa"

I have spent more than 2 years after getting ILR status.
So when I had to come to UK, I applied for the "Returing resident visa" and it was approved.

At the border security check, they asked for the ILR BRP card and they kept the card though it has still validity.

I do not know what to do, now I am w/o any identity.

if you had a valid LTR on card then they will post it to you.. the officer must have made a mistake.

Presumably you applied for the returning resident visa and got a vignette in your passport???

What does it say and what did the letter you got with it say??

Thanks for your replies, much appreciated.

Yes, I applied for the returning resident visa and got a vignette in my passport.

At the Visa processing center, they told me to open the the decision letter and asked me to tell (in front of them) the decision. When I said that the decision was "yes(approved)" they took the letter in no time and returned my passport.

I did not pay attention to further details in the letter.

Vignette says "Indefinite Leave to Enter" which was valid for 6 months from the date of issue.
