ILR when to start counting qualifying period

Hi,

I am very confused with the ILR application and would really appreciate some advice.

Here is my situation: My Tier 2 visa was issued on 28th October 2014 but expires on 11th September 2019 (1.5 months short of 5 years). I applied for the Tier 2 visa while in the UK on Tier 4; the application for the Tier 2 visa was dated 14th September 2014. I went abroad over the summer of 2014 but entered the UK 1st September of 2014.

Can you please advise on if I can use my application date (14th Sept 2014) as the start of my qualifying period, or is it the date on the visa which is 28th Oct 2014?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Sunn

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. I will proceed with this advice in mind.

Do you have any idea why they give visas that are just short of 5 years? Do they expect us to extend to make up another 1.5 months?

Thanks,
Sunn

Hi experts,

You have already given me some valuable advice. I have another query and would be grateful for your thoughts:

I will be applying for the long residence route for ilr. I have all the passports covering my 10 years in the UK and the current BRP, but I cannot find my previous BRPs (I have the copy of some, but for a BRP covering a few months in 2010, I cannot find the copy either). Is this a problem?

Thanks in advance.

Best,
Sunn

You don't need to send your old BRPs.

I have merged your topics.
