ILR expired, now trying to return with a child

Hello,

I am a British citizen with a Japanese wife. We married 14 years ago in the UK and have lived in the UK and Japan together. About 5 years ago we moved from the UK to Japan for family reasons. We've been planning to come back but due to work and a baby, we had to postpone coming back.

Now, my wife has lost her indefinite leave to remain status and I think she has to apply for a returning resident visa.

My child is Japanese born and has never lived in the UK, so what visa would we have to apply for?

Thank you for your help.

If you are British, born or naturalised, then your child is British by descent and can apply directly for a passport.

Thank you so much for your quick response. I didn't realise it was as simple as that!
