ILR application based on Tier 2

Hi,
I will be applying for ILR based on Tier 2. Could you please let me know what kind of letter should be provided from my work place? Should they include details about the time spent outside the UK?
I have travelled quite often during these 5 years (not exceeding the max amount per year). Some of them were for work and some were for holidays or family visit. How can I prove the time spent outside the UK rather than going through every stamp I have? I heard that Home office can send a document about your entrance to the country. How can I request that?
