Not required.
Would it not be advantageous to write a covering letter to explain things like: relationship background, financial points, dependant child custody background, or reasons why applicant wants to stay in the country? I appreciate that there are some sections in the application for some of that information.

No. Cover letter is not required when there is nothing to explain

Rescheduled appointment for ILR: additional docs

I had appointment for ILR in late March. But for obvious reasons, I was rescheduled for early May.
Do i need to provide additional documents for the time difference, such as payslips etc. I am getting paid but my employer’s facilities are closed, including HR. So it is a big deal to get documents or have them signed.
Or should i simply go to my appointment in may with my documents for march?

No. Documents are based on application date which is the date you submited your application online !

No cover letter is required but in my case, I had to justify why my family had to arrive after 3 months of our leave granted (after 103 days to be exact), so I made a cover letter to explain (the main reason was about finishing school first before coming to the UK).
