Visa expiring 2 weeks before ILR application date

Hi All

I applied for and received a Tier 2 (General) worker visa back in 2019 and I am getting ready to prep my ILR application and upon reviewing the dates I realized my visa would expire two weeks before the 28 days pre-settlement period.

My entry and valid-from date was 25-07-2019 and my expiry date is 14-06-2024.

So, helpful people on this forum:

1. Do I really need to pay for a 1 year extension and go through the entire process to only apply for ILR two weeks later?
2. Why would the immigration office give less than 5 years, I am guessing it's wayy to late to rectify now?

I have heard people say do the online application before the visa expires but only do the biometrics after the 28 day period as a workaround but everything I read says applying online more than 28 days ahead means automatic refusal and losing the fee.

Thanks in advance
Ivan

Apply before visa expiry and delay Biomtercis until eligible. This has been discussed extensively in many many posts before. There is no automatic refusal as you perceive it
