ILR Application

Hi Everyone
I am writing to seek Suggestion regarding my upcoming Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) application under the Skilled Worker visa route. I have two specific questions concerning my application:

1. Passport Validity – Less Than 6 Months

My current passport is due to expire in May 2026. I would be grateful if anyone can advice whether this will affect my ILR application or if I need to renew my passport prior to submission. I understand that certain visa applications require a minimum passport validity period

2. ILR Eligibility Date

I would also like suggestion on earliest date I may submit my ILR application. My visa history is as follows:

Application Date: 01 January 2021

Biometric Appointment Date: 11 January 2021

Visa Grant Date (Decision Email): 18 January 2021

Based on the 5-year continuous residence requirement, whether I can apply 28 days before the visa start date (01 January 2021), or the biometric appointment date (11 January 2021), or the decision date (18 January 2021).

Thank you in advance for your guidance and support

1. There is no min passport validity requirement

2. Because of the COVID concession, your earliest date of ILR eligibility is 01 January 2021 + 5 years - 28 days

Make sure to read: All you need to know about applying early, the application date, 28-day concession and more

Advice on visa route for Skilled Worker dependent after ILR – impact of proposed rule changes

Hi

Thanks for suggestion on my ILR and its succeed

Now the question is for my wife

I was on a UK Skilled Worker visa and obtained my settlement (ILR) on December 2025.
My wife joined me in the UK in September 2022 as my Skilled Worker dependent.

Given the proposed rule changes, I would like advice on the best visa route for her going forward:

Should I apply to extend her stay as a Skilled Worker dependent, where her existing qualifying period toward settlement may continue (i.e. the counter does not reset)?
(Issue is the proposed 10 Year ILR rule for all applicant.)
OR

Should I apply for her as a settlement (ILR) dependent, understanding that this route may require her qualifying period to start afresh?

Can I get suggestion for that ILR dependent timeperiod is staying for 5 years or it is also changing to 10 year

The risks or benefits of switching or staying her to a settlement-dependent route in light of the proposed immigration rule changes.

Thank you in advance.

Your wife remains as a Skilled Worker dependant until she qualifies for ILR.

There is no such thing as ILR dependant.

PS: keep all your ILR related questions in one single post.

Congratulations :D

As advised, do not need to move your wife under family route. There is no such need as she can stay under her route
