Urgent help needed
My friend applied for Indefinite Leave to Remain under the 10 years long residence route using super priority. We got this reply today. Please any suggestions will be highly appreciated. Many thanks
Thank you for your application for Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK
Although we would normally decide your application within 48 Hours from the date it was submitted, unfortunately this is not going to be possible in your case.
This is because your application raises exceptionally complex issues and we require further time to consider your case thoroughly and reach a decision.
To demonstrate knowledge of English language a person must either:
• having a speaking and listening qualification in English at B1 level or above of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
• having a degree that was taught or researched in English
• being a national of a majority English-speaking country
You have submitted your expired Trinity certificate dated 18/10/2019. As your previous grant of Leave this certificate was not used to verify your knowledge of English within this application.
Therefore this cannot be accepted for your current application.
In order for your application to be processed a Trinity College ESOL certificate has to have been issued within 2 years of your application for ILR; in this instance as your application was submitted 21/10/2025 – the certificate must be dated 21/10/2023 or later.
If you do have a certificate that was issued to you in the last 2 years could it please be sent to me via return email and I can process your application accordingly.
If you are awaiting test results of a recent exam you have taken, could you please inform me so your application can be placed on hold until you receive your certificate.
Please submit your responses to:
I look forward to hearing from you with either your recent certificate or to inform me that you have got to rebook your ESOL test
I am sorry for the delay in dealing with your application and for the inconvenience this is causing. Please be assured that we are doing all we can to make a decision on your case as quickly as possible.
We expect to make a decision on your application by 27 April 2026, but we will write to you again if this is not going to be possible.

Well, he needs a new current certificate (unless he actually did a test in the meantime).
Best to book a Trinity B1 test ASAP and submit as requested.
In the meantime he must inform the caseworker explaining what is happening, and requesting some waiting time.
That's what I would do - this is not ILR specific.
