ILR and Employer's Letter

Hi Guys
I am trying to collect documents for ILR (I am on unmarried partner visa). Do I (and my partner) need a letter from ours employers to state that we were working in theses years?? If yes, what else will be in that letter?? Time period (of job) and what posts we are working on?? Please help, if somebody have similar situation.
