ILR in Consulting Job with absences from UK

Hello,
I am considering taking up a consulting job in UK, which will involve travel overseas on business.
Can I be eligible for ILR if I get a letter from the employer saying that the time spent outside UK was for business purposes?
Will those days spent on business then be treated outside the 180 day rule?
