Hi,

Ministers are bringing forward to the autumn measures requiring many immigrants marrying UK citizens to prove they have a command of English.

My wife's spouse visa expires in April 2011.

My wife is currently studying the Life in UK test and god willing will take the test at some point next month.

Would anyone on this forum explain if now my wife willalso have to take this test in order to obtain her ILR.

Thanks

I believe that the rules only apply to people who are making the initial settlement application. People like your wife will (at the moment) only be required to pass the Life in UK test. Hopefully rules will not change before she applies for ILR.

This is for new entrants. You wife will only need the Life in the UK pass certificate, which will also be valid for a BC application later on.
One tip which my Moroccan husband found helped in the test...you have the option of listening to the questions through headphones while reading from the screen.

Im just hoping this will be the only change they make to visas this year. My husband is due ILR late January 2011. Im hoping that they dont bring forward the permanent residence changes until July 2011 (if they implement them). Fingers crossed!!
