Incorrect name printed on ILR visa stamp

Dear Members,

I had applied for ILR visa for myself and my dependents (my wife and son) through premier service (in person). Visa was granted to all 3 of us but on my wife's ILR visa stamp, one of the alphabets in her name was typed incorrectly (D was typed as P). The reason was one of the letters in her name was mis-interpreted as the details in her passport were handwritten. I was there in person hence I pointed out this mistake to them and I showed them other UK visa stamp (entry clearance dependent visa) on her passport which had the correct name.

But they did not accept/acknowledge it and refused to correct the name on the ILR visa. They asked me to get her name on the passport corrected from the embassy and re-apply for the ILR visa. After enquiring at the embassy we were told that it would be better to get a new passport with the name typed (not handwritten), which will resolve the ambiguity.

So now we have a new passport for my wife and we need to get the ILR stamp corrected.

When we called UKBA, they told us that we would need to fill in the "NTL" form and apply again. However NTL seems to be for transferring existing visa to new passport. But in our case we need to get the ILR stamp to be corrected with correct name and the old ILR visa to be invalidated. Moreover the new ILR stamp needs to granted on the new passport. We fear that if we submit the NTL form, they might issue the existing incorrect visa on to her new passport as the NTL form is for transfer of the existing visa on the new passport.

We would like to know if anyone has ever experienced something like this or knows the exact procedure to get the visa corrected. We will really appreciate all your help and guidance on this.

Thanks.

As it's their spelling error, they should correct it for free, without the need for a NTL application.

Perhaps you should make a comment?

Hi Vinny,
Thank you for the reply.

I agree with you that its spelling error. But when I was at the at the UKBA office (permier service) they argued that the D was looking like P and hence they did not accept that it was their fault. (even though the other UK visa on the passport had it D in the name and all other supporting documents had D as well!!)

My wife has travelled before on that passport and hence in their system they should have her correct name as well. However they did not bother to listen to me at all which I could not understand...

If we make a comment as you have suggested, how soon can we expect the reply? The problem is we are flying out on vacation trip end of this month and really dont have much time.

We actually throught that when we called UKBA they would say that book an appointment and we will get the name corrected on visa stamp on her new passport. Instead they suggested the NTL form. Now we fear that since NTL is for moving the visa on the new passport, they might tranfer the incorrect visa on the new passport...

Appreciate your comments.

Thanks.
