ILR without a job?

Dear all,

A friend of mine just been made redundant. He was on a work permit and for his time spent first as a student and then as an employee, he has completed 10 years legally in the UK. Unfortunately he lost his job just a month before he was planning to apply for ILR.

Under these circumstances where his remaining time on work permit will give him 2 months to stay but a letter of employment will not be possible, could he still get the ILR?

Thanks in advance,

Being employed at the time of settlement application isn't a requirement when applying for settlement under long residence (276D).
