Applying for ILR on SET (O) Form under 'Other Catgeory'

Have recently submitted an application under the 'Other purposes or reasons not covered by other application forms' as Wife has just completed 6 years of DL.
Has anyone else had experience of applying via this method recently keen to know outcome and time taken for a decision by UKBA.
Also it says on the UKBA website that if you apply under this method you are exempt from needing a LIFE IN THE UK TEST, but if you decide to apply for British Citizenship you will require one ?
Submitted via Postal application to Durham office.
