This was my scenario:

I am a young guy 24. I am due to apply for ILR on the SET (O) form below is my immigration background.

1) Moved to England in Dec 2002 as a dependent on my mothers work permit.

2) Had difficulty renewing my visa as a dependent due to the fact that I was over 18, 5 residence permit was granted on appeal (2006).

3) Applied for ILR by post however the cheque bounced and the application was returned.

4) My mother has since been granted citizenship.

5) Visa exired in February, applied for ILR but application was rejected due to cheque not clearing.

I have been a student since 2006 and I have now completed my degree and secured graduate employment as an engineer. I now plan on going for a face to face application as soon as possible at Solihull.

My question is what is the likely outcome ?? Apart from the obvious, below are the documents I plan on taking with me:

Passport.
Proof of residence
My mothers passport
Proof that I have been in education, letter from University, references from teachers and references from my placement.
Proof of employment, i.e. the employment contract for the job im starting in Sept.
A cover letter to go with the application

Outcome:

Arrived at PEO at 8:30, went through airport style checks. Waited till about 9:15, and the went to see the case worker. I was shocked that the case worker knew everything about my case and as such he didn't ask me many questions. He asked me to produce evidence that me and my mother live at same address and also proof that she actually is my mother and her passport too. He did not even mention the overstaying at all. He then told me that he has granted me ILR and that I should come back after 90 mins.

After documents were checked I was asked to pay at the cashiers desk and then asked to wait about 90 mins.

Congratulations on finally getting the ILR. What proof did you provide of living together with your mother?

Thank you, I showed two bank statements one belonging to her and one from me. Both were sent to the same address which shows that we live together
