my husband will be due to apply for ILR (He is here on a 2 year spouse visa)... my concern is that , as a self emplyed musician (1) his earnings were low during the first 18 months and (2) very much of his earnings are cash in hand... we have evidence for his tax returns!!

my question is will his low earnings (they are now picking up) affect his application, althoug my earnings are enough for both of us. or should we apply for an extension FLR (M)...

As long as you are able to support yourselves financially it really doesn't matter which one of you has the higher earnings.

sorry- does that mean that as long as my salary is sufficient to support us both then he should be OK or do they look at his earnings independently?

They look at joint earnings. Bear in mind that in many households only one partner may be working. Case workers are advised not to refuse spouse ILR applications due to lack of finance alone. More emphasis is placed on whether the marriage is continuing and the couple are living together.
