ILR -CANCELLATION

Hi
Can anyone please confirm once you have received your ILR, can that ever be cancelled??? for example if you are away from the UK for any period of time or no longer reside with your partner BC?
My sister in law came to the UK on a Spouses Visa and has since obtianed her ILR.
