Bank statements as proof of address - possibly silly questio

Post by nabnab » Sun Jul 03, 2016 11:30 pm

Using bank statements as proof of address, is it the date printed that counts, or is it the date of the transactions listed on it?

I haven't kept a very good record of proof of address, are there any other suggestions for backdated ones that I could get hold of?

Finally, I'm applying to do a citizenship application later, so I'll be using the same documents again. Do they have to be originals, and if so, will I get them back?

Thanks for your replies!

Council tax and utility bills are good for proof of address. They should obviously be recent.

You will get your documents back after your citizenship application has been decided, and yes you should send originals (bank statements should be stamped by the bank). Alternatively, you can use your local Nationality Checking Service for a fee, and they will send certified photocopies with your application (except for Life in the UK certificate as the original must be sent) and you keep the originals.

You only need to have your bank statements stamped by the issuing bank if they are online statements or copies.
