CSI for student when most of course completed in FT work?

Hi,

another worried EU national here. Never looked at applying for PR because I thought it came with being an EU national (I first came to this country in March 87, and I guess I should have paid closer attention to the rules, but there you go - kicking myself now, but that's not really constructive.)

I've worked full time in this country from July 99 to May 11, paid taxes and NI via PAYE (since June 11, have been living on savings and doing voluntary work for charities close to my heart).

Except... in 2006, started a part time postgrad course alongside the full time job I held at the time. Left that job in Jan 2006 to concentrate properly on dissertation. Started a new job on August 2008. So from Jan 2006 to June 2006, I guess I held student status? I had no CSI (I thought that was what NI contributions were for?!) - would I have needed it? I had been in full time employment for several years by then, does that make a difference?

If anybody has any idea about this, I'd be so grateful! Thanks in advance.

Just use a different qualifying period which doesn't include the few months during which you were a student without CSI. You can use any 5 year period.
